Terms of Service
Last updated 2026-10-08.
1. Who we are and agreeing to these terms
Grimoire ("Grimoire", "we", "us") is a speed-reading web service at grimoire.meme, operated by Grimoire, a sole proprietorship based in Minnesota, United States. By using Grimoire you agree to these Terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the service.
2. Who can use Grimoire
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you may use Grimoire only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian, and only a parent or guardian may buy a paid plan for you. Grimoire is not for children under 13, and we will close any account we learn belongs to one.
3. The service
Grimoire shows text one word (or a few words) at a time so you can read faster, and lets you load text, PDFs, EPUBs and web pages, and keep highlights and notes. The free tier is limited to 5,000 words per document and 475 words per minute and shows a banner. Features may change over time; we will not tighten the free tier's word and speed limits to push people toward Pro.
4. Your documents and notes
You keep all rights to what you load into Grimoire and to the notes you write. Documents, highlights, notes and sticky notes are stored in your own browser. If you are signed in with Pro, Your Library is also kept in your account — the text of each document, not the original file — so it's available on your other devices; deleting a document there deletes our copy. We don't use that material for anything else. You are responsible for having the right to read and load anything you open in Grimoire.
5. Accounts
Accounts are optional and use a sign-in link sent to your email; there is no password. Keep access to your email account secure — anyone who can read it can sign in as you. You can ask us to delete your account at any time (see Contact).
6. Grimoire Pro
Payments are processed by Square. We never see or store your card details. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any taxes that apply.
Monthly plan — $9.99 per month. Billed when you subscribe and then automatically every month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time using the link in your Square receipt or by contacting us; Pro stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and you won't be charged again. We may change the monthly price. If we do, we'll tell existing subscribers at least 30 days before the new price applies to them, and it will apply only from your next billing date after that notice, so you can cancel first if you don't want to continue.
Lifetime plan — $199, paid once. Offered for a limited time; we may stop selling it at any time without notice, and that doesn't affect anyone who already bought it. "Lifetime" means for as long as we operate Grimoire, not the lifetime of a person or device. It includes Pro features we add later. If we ever shut Grimoire down, we will give at least 60 days' notice.
Keys. Buying Pro gives you a key. It's for you: use it on any of your own devices, but don't publish, resell or share it publicly. We may revoke a key that is refunded, charged back, obtained by fraud, or shared publicly.
7. Refunds
You can get a full refund for any charge — a monthly payment or the lifetime purchase — within 14 days of that charge, for any reason, by replying to your Square receipt or contacting us. The key for a refunded purchase stops working when the refund is processed. This doesn't limit any refund rights you have under the law where you live.
8. Acceptable use
- Don't attack, overload, or try to break into the service or other people's accounts.
- Don't use Grimoire to break the law, including copyright law.
- Don't use automated tools to scrape the service or abuse the sign-in, checkout or suggestion features.
We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these rules.
9. Suggestions
If you send us suggestions or feedback, we may use them freely, without owing you anything for them.
10. Our software
Grimoire's software, design and name belong to us. Some parts are third-party open-source components (such as the PDF engine and fonts), which remain under their own licences.
11. No warranty
Grimoire is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, including that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that text extracted from a file will be complete or accurate. Grimoire is a reading tool, not medical, educational or professional advice.
12. Limit of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits. Our total liability for any claim relating to Grimoire is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.
13. Ending your use
You can stop using Grimoire at any time. We may suspend or end the service, or your access to it, as described in sections 6 and 8. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as 9–12 and 14) continue to apply.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Minnesota, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Minnesota, except that either of us may bring a claim in small-claims court where eligible. If you live in a country whose consumer laws give you the right to bring a claim where you live, nothing here takes that away.
15. Changes to these terms
We'll update this page when the Terms change and change the date at the top. For changes that materially affect your rights or what you pay, we'll give at least 30 days' notice — by email to account holders and a notice in the reader — before they take effect.
